The property is built to passive standards, offering exceptional thermal comfort. In summer, the interior stays cool even with the shutters open, and in winter, the stove alone heats the entire house.

Life in the mountains has its own specific characteristics and constraints. Internet outages are frequent, and power cuts occur much less frequently. The locals' sheepdogs enjoy a certain amount of freedom, so you are likely to encounter them – they are harmless.

The house is located in the historic village and is on the edge of the restricted access zone. You will therefore have direct access to the pedestrian zone while still being able to move around freely and park your vehicles on the property (public car parks = €8/day). The village of Gavarnie is at the bottom of the valley, reached by a winding road, but this does not present any particular difficulty. It is accessible all year round. In winter, you must be equipped in accordance with mountain regulations. In the event of heavy snowfall, it is advisable to temporarily leave your car in the car park located higher up. The road leading to the ski resort is in good condition and is cleared of snow throughout the season.

The Grande Cascade is the image that springs to everyone’s mind. But the villa is situated right where the valley truly begins: the footpaths start right on your doorstep, the ski shuttle is 180 metres away, and from the terrace, the Cirque de Gavarnie lies directly in front of you. On foot: the Plateau de Saugué and its bird’s-eye view of the cirque, the Ossoue Valley and its marmots. Less than 25 minutes away: the Troumouse and Estaubé cirques, the Pont Napoléon and the thermal baths at Luz-Saint-Sauveur, and the legendary Tourmalet climb. A leisurely family stroll, a long high-altitude hike, skiing or snowshoeing in winter, a visit to the thermal baths at the end of the day: every day here offers its own unique landscape. And in the evening, you return home — not to a hotel. Our guests who stay for a week leave feeling as though they’ve only just begun.
